Where to Ask About an Inmate or Record

For Calhoun County jail custody and sheriff records, start with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, 400 West 8th Street, Anniston, AL 36201. The main office phone is (256) 236-6600. The Anniston Police FAQ lists 256-236-5561 for jail inquiries about Anniston inmates housed by the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's open-records routing also lists sheriff@calcoso.org and fax (256) 237-6321. The research did not locate a separate published sheriff records-window schedule, so call before traveling for records pickup or jail paperwork.

For formal criminal case records, filings, dispositions, copy requests, or Alabama expungement paperwork under Alabama Code Section 15-27, contact the Calhoun Circuit Clerk at the Calhoun County Courthouse, 25 West 11th Street, Anniston, AL 36201. The clerk's records packet lists public inspection Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Court-record questions are separate from jail roster questions.

  • For someone currently in the Calhoun County Jail, use the official roster guidance on jail inmate records and verify with the Sheriff's Office if the roster is unclear.
  • For booking photo questions, use jail roster mugshots and the Sheriff's open-records process. Alabama public-records requests are generally framed by Sections 36-12-40 and 36-12-41, subject to exceptions.
  • For charges filed after booking, use court records after a jail arrest and the Circuit Clerk's public terminal, written request process, or Just One Look access.
  • For a specific local custody location, use the facility pages listed in the footer for Calhoun County Jail and the Anniston Police Department / Municipal Holding Facility.
  • For Anniston municipal records, the research lists Anniston Municipal Court office hours as Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; warrant and record-check windows are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 8:30-11:00 a.m. and 1:30-3:00 p.m.
  • For a sentenced Alabama state prisoner, use the Alabama Department of Corrections inmate search. ADOC is separate from the county jail and covers current state-prison custody.
  • For a federal or immigration detainee, check the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System. No separate BOP prison or ICE detention center was confirmed inside Calhoun County.
